SURVIVING HISTORY - PORTRAITS FROM VILNA
A travelling multimedia exhibition direct from Lithuania and UK
Surviving History - Portraits from Vilna presents the life stories of ten individuals who survived the Holocaust in Lithuania where ninety-five percent of the 240 000 strong pre-war Jewish population was annihilated. All of those interviewed lost family members to the Holocaust. In some cases, they are the lone survivors among extended families of over one hundred people to have come through alive.
The Exhibition project has been led by Shivaun Woolfson and Frances Tay of Living Imprint (UK) with partners The Holocaust Centre/Bet Shalom (UK) and Spiro Ark(UK). Historical consultant: Ruta Puisyta.
Drawing on an interdisciplinary range of media including: photography, video, text, archival documentation, visual biography and biographical objects, the exhibition seeks to express how history is lived: how world events are experienced from the inside.
The exhibition will run from 5 - 16 May 2010
