The Centre conducts education programmes for Grade 9-12 learners.
 In consultation with educators, the programmes are designed to address any particular needs of a specific school.
The basic programme examines the history of the Holocaust as a case study of gross genocide, human rights violations, and prejudice, as well as the attempts of rescuers and resistors to defy the might of the Nazis, and the relevance this history has to South Africa and contemporary society.

 The school programmes are generally 4 hours in length.
Two short documentaries about the impact of the Holocaust on the lives of young people growing up under Nazi occupation are shown.
After a brief orientation in the Seminar Room, participants are divided into small groups and taken around the permanent exhibition with a member of the Centre’s education team and our volunteer educators. The exhibition visit is also adapted to meet the varying needs and skill’s level of the school. Learners are encouraged to engage with the exhibition.
A debriefing session follows the visit to the exhibition.
The programme concludes with questions and discussion, facilitating the making of connections between the past and the present, and encouraging the learners to become more engaged with their communities. |

The impact of pseudo-scientific racism and Social Darwinism on the 19th and 20th centuries, including the eugenics movement in the late 19th century and its impact on ideas of ‘race’ and racism in Africa, the USA, Australia, Europe and particularly leading to genocide in Nazi Germany.

Through learning about the history of the Holocaust, issues such as responsible leadership are explored. |

Peer Educator Programme
This programme is aimed at Grade 11 history learners.
Through an intensive two-day training programme facilitated by the Centre’s education team, the learners are then ready to guide Grade 9 learners through the Centre’s portable exhibition.
